The Bulgarian football team debuted at the Olympic stadium as early as the Olympiad in Paris in 1924. The Bulgarian team, however, dropped out at the start with a score of 2:4 against Eire.

The team had the same fate at its second appearance at the games in “Helsinki ‘52” – it lost with 1:2 from the USSR. Success came to the Bulgarian national team at its third participation – a bronze medal from “Melbourne ‘56”. The coach of the team was Stoyan Ormandzhiev.

At the next Olympiad in “Rome ‘60” the team experienced yet another disappointment – it dropped out at the group classifications. The Games in “Mexico ‘68” were the most successful for the Bulgarian team – the coach Georgi Berkov led the nationals to the Olympic silver.
